A Critical Edition

Tickets are still available for this year's event, which
comprises a coach trip to the Wirral with a focus on Lowry's golfing haunts. Special
Lowry collectibles will be handed out during the jaunt, which involves (not too
strenuous) walks around the Royal Liverpool golf course, along the coast
to West Kirby, and on to Caldy, led by Colin Dilnot and Helen
Tookey, with readings from Lowry's work en route. Bring a packed lunch and
waterproof clothing in case of inclement weather.
Book now as numbers are
limited.
After the coach tour, back at Bluecoat there is a screening of
one of Lowry's favourite films, Outward
Bound at 3pm.This is followed by the launch of University of Ottawa Press’
new publication, The 1940 Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry: A Critical
Edition, Lowry’s first attempt at
writing his best known book, which differs significantly from his 1947
masterpiece. This part of the Lounge, starting at 5pm, is free but if you are
only coming for this booking is still recommended. Lowry scholar Vik
Doyen, who has written a
foreword to the book, will introduce the new edition and talk about the process
of bringing it to publication
